Elizabeth Ann Coy SWIRE PAGE RUTTY died on 06 January
1924 in Lottery, Jamaica.
She is buried in the Swanswick Churchyard at Clarkes Town, Trelawny,
Jamaica.
Her newspaper death notice in The Gleaner of Kingston, Jamaica for
Friday, January 11, 1924, on page two, reads:
DEATH
RUTTY, ELIZABETH - Relict of the late J. W. RUTTY, at Lottery,
Falmouth, on Sunday, 6th January 1924 at 9:30 p.m. |
Elizabeth Ann
Coy SWIRE was affectionately called "Granny Rutty" in her elder years, and was
also called Lizzie, Liz and Bess by her parents, brothers and sisters. Her full
name is recorded as Elizabeth Coy SWIRE in her mother's bible, now held by the
National Library of Jamaica. Her other given name of Ann is attributed to Rutty
family records. She was born 30 November 1839 in eastern Jamaica to Roger SWIRE
and Frances Lydia COX, who began their married life in St. Vincent before moving
to Jamaica in the late 1820's.
Elizabeth
SWIRE was married twice, first to Henry Constantine "Harry" PAGE on 07 February
1861 in Jamaica. Harry PAGE was the son of Robert PAGE and Susanna Jane SNAITH.
He died on 14 August 1863 at Happy Grove, Manchioneal, Portland Parish, Jamaica.
Harry PAGE and Elizabeth SWIRE had two children:
- Robert Andrew PAGE was born 29 November 1861 in Jamaica. He married an apparent
cousin, Sarah Elizabeth 'Sally" PAGE. He died about 1935.
- Henrietta Constance PAGE was born 25 January 1863 in Jamaica. She married Arthur
Stuart DUFF (son of John DUFF and Margaret DALLAS) on 14 July 1885 in Stewart
Town, Trelawny, Jamaica. They had two daughters, Muriel DUFF and Nora DUFF.
Henrietta died 22 November 1951 in Jamaica. She is buried in the Halfway Tree
Parish Churchyard at Kingston, Jamaica.
Elizabeth
SWIRE married second to Joseph Waterhouse RUTTY on 06 August 1873 in the
Falmouth Parish Church in Falmouth, Jamaica.
They had six children:
- Mary Josephine "Maimie" RUTTY was born 04 September 1874 in Jamaica. She married
Capel Molineux CAHUSAC and had eight children. Maimie died 28 January 1941. She
is buried in the Halfway Tree Parish Churchyard at Kingston, Jamaica.
- Frank Swire
RUTTY was born 12 June 1876 in Jamaica. He married Mary Ida Louise ISAACS on 26
December 1899 at Wesleyan Church, Brown's Town, St. Ann, Jamaica. They had five
children. Frank died about 1955 in Preston, St. Mary, Jamaica. Frank RUTTY
worked as a fruit exporter and trader.
- Ernest William
Walter "Willie" RUTTY was born 01 February 1878 in Home Castle, Jamaica. He
married Winnifred Wynn SMITH and had five children. He died in 1914 in Hamilton,
Ontario, Canada. According to the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid online, he is
buried in the Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton, Wentworth County, Ontario County.
- May RUTTY was
born between 1878 and 1880 in Jamaica. She died at the age of about two, of
scarlet fever, in Barnstaple, Trelawny, Jamaica.
- Fanny Emily RUTTY was born 19 July 1880 in Jamaica. She emigrated to the United
States.

Ronald Coy Swire RUTTY was born 28 July 1883 in
Barnstaple, Trelawny, Jamaica. He married Lily BONHAM on 01 July 1917 in
England. They had one daughter. He married Hilda Margaret KERR on 15 August
1923. He died 08 May 1963 at the Manor House Hotel, Constant Spring, Jamaica.
