Falmouth Augst
8th 82
My dear Phil
The last letter I got from you found its way to the East Indies,
because you simply addressed it to me, Falmouth did not put Jamaica so
that it travelled to the East Indies, then back to England and at last
got to me.
I have this morning parted with my dear
Lizzie, her husband
and her five little ones.
Joe has taken
charge of a Penn in St. James about 20 miles from here, and I trust
they will all keep their health there. They all felt parting with
Grannie but dear little
Mary cried bitterly at parting with me. I have had so much
to do with her, keeping her with me and in teaching her that I am sure
the dear Child will miss me quite as much as I will miss her. I wish
she could have been left with, had I been living in my own house I
would not have parted with her. I pray that they will get on well. I
know I shall hear of them every week, and that is something to look
forward to.
Give my best love to your dear wife and Children
and accept the same from your loving Mother.
